Shame, guilt, or they just plain don’t think they have a problem. That’s why they say that the first step to getting rid of a problem is admitting that you have a problem.
A lot of it is denial. Plus people think that they are stronger than they actually are. Even with the problem gettign worse they are still oblivious to it until something bad happens like getting arrested or going to jail or something like that.
My husband comes home smells lioke booze and lies and if I say a thing he says I don’t drink what’s mY problem he is a fruit loop.
