Everybody’s recovery from alcohol and drug abuse is an individual affair. But there are some common skills and relapse prevention tools that people who have long-term sobriety utilize on a regular basis.
While there is no exact, gold standard, blueprint for says access here are the tools that have been shown to be effective:

1. Firstly, place your addiction recovery and sobriety growth as the number one priority in your life.
2. Continue or engage in professional counseling if possible. Studies show that the greater the length of time involved in addiction treatment, the better the outcomes.
3. Construct a large social support system consisting of reliable friends, family and people who are successful in their own recovery. Most importantly, weren’t to ask for help and implement suggestions.
4. Above all things, maintain abstinence. Do not ever lure yourself into the belief that returning to drug or alcohol abuse is a solution to your problem. Do whatever it takes’ to not drink or drug.
5. Discover and work a proven relapse prevention plan. Learn how to grow in recovery.
6. Having formulated a successful recovery plan, implement it. The best plan in the world does no good unless it is employed and utilized on a daily basis.
7. Continue to grow and change in your recovery. Seek out ways for positive growth both physical, mental and psychologically, and spiritually.

I think #4 is extremely important. I think what many addicts fail to realize is that abstinence is really the only successful way to stay away from drinking and drugs. Just taking that one little sip can make things spiral out of control quicker than one would think.
