The most effective drug addiction treatment programs use a combination of therapeutic approaches tailored to the needs of the patient. Some issues that may affect a patient’s treatment needs include issues around age, race, gender, ethnicity, cultural background, sexual orientation, pregnancy and parenting issues, and housing and employment situation, as well as past or present physical or sexual abuse.
