A Hidden Benefit Of An Inpatient Drug Rehab Stay

by admin on March 25, 2010

Going away to an inpatient drug rehab can be a big decision.

People sometimes have very high expectations simply stopping drinking or drugging will solve all the problems in their life. He refrained I often hear is that things aren’t moving along fast enough. I’m not understanding all this. When these things get better?

One thing the people in the middle of rehab failed to realize is that they are actually staying sober for consecutive days quite possibly for the first time in years. This in itself, is an accomplishment. They are giving their bodies a rest from being overwhelmed with poison. This is a start.

What we are looking for in a prolonged stay in a drug rehab such as 30 to 60 days is for the person’s body start functioning normally again, as well as the thinking processes start to work more efficiently, and hopefully emotional stability returns.

Often, patients want to leave rehab as soon as they start feeling better to any degree. This is a mistake. If one were to take the amount of time they think is necessary in Tripoli you might be in the ballpark. One aspect that I, as an addictions therapist consider first is the safety of the patient. Are they safer staying in rehab for another week in their current condition for returning home. In terms of safety, an extended stay in a drug rehab can almost always be recommended over returning prematurely back home.

The route you take depends a good deal upon where you want to go.

It is definitely important that people stay in treatment as long as possible. In addition to detoxification and learning to live in the center without drugs, they need to be trained about how to deal with the real world. Rehab is a very structured environment, but when you’re out there, you can easily fall right back into the same lifestyle. Preventing relapse is more important in rehab centers than getting people off the stuff in the first place.
