Developing a continuing care plan is part of competent drug and alcohol treatment. If you attended a rehab or received professional help, they made certain recommendations and referrals we need to to follow in the next phase of treatment.

Studies have shown that people who do not engage in continuing care doubled their chances for relapse within the first year versus those who have followed their continuing care plan.

Continuing Care Plan Of Action:

1. Schedule your continuing care appointments and meetings at a very convenient time and work the rest of your life in around them. In other words prioritize the lapsed prevention in the number one timeslot.

2. Be open about telling people where you are going and where you are supposed to be. This can create an internal pressure to be accountable both to yourself and to people who may question you if you do not follow through.

3. Push the envelope and look at every meeting or appointment as a learning opportunity. Make sure you get a ‘take away’, some form of growth. Do not let them become the team, mundane, or simply a reporting of facts.
