Anorexia is certainly a women’s addiction recovery issue, and is often combined with [tag-self]substance abuse[/tag-self]. Together they pose a formidable obstacle to over come. If you, or someone you know has disordered eating patterns, please get professional addiction treatment help. Side note: anorexia is not strictly limited to women.
Here are some great resources from around the web on anorexia:
Anorexia: Where careers come to die – There have been a few things playing on my mind today. I have been in a somewhat bleak place, so I am trying to keep things in perspective and see through the grey. A nice quick catnap helped immensely seeing as I left the little heater …
My Battle With An Eating Disorder (from: I Struggle With My Body … – In second semester 9th grade health class, we learned about Anorexia Nervosa. I used to think that anorexics were just being utterly pathetic, but when my friend, who used to love food more than a regular at the buffet, was stricken by it, my views changed.
I managed to get him out of it through sheer willpower though, which involved handcuffing him to my table until he ate what I cooked.
This is a major eating disorder that is related to the way women (and some men) view themselves. I’d like to blame the media and how they glamorize stick figured women as being attractive. Sends a bad message to women and it’s especially destructive to teenage girls.
Great post about these web resources for battling anorexia. This illness has been so prevalent in the country, and efforts to fight this are still insufficient. It is important to be aware of the warning signs and treatment options available to help a loved one or yourself to beat anorexia. It’s not something to taken lightly because it is a deadly illness.
This is an awful disease. I do blame the media. The media is saying that you aren’t beautiful unless you are stick thin…I remember reading a while ago that in Spain you cannot walk on the catwalk unless you are over I believe it was 110lbs. I think there should be rules like that here in Hollywood. There are so many kids that have body issues and they resort to anorexia…Something should definitely be done.
I know a couple of people who work at an eating disorder clinic and it is very strict in the way it monitors the women who are there. The people who work there know all of the tricks women will use to keep themselves thin. It’s just so sad that society has become this way. Let’s go back to the 50s when women had curves like Marilyn Monroe.
