In contacting the drug addiction of treatment program for yourself or a loved one, one of the first processes you will go through is that of screening.
You’ll want to ask some questions of the treatment center in a need to screen applicants for the program. Screening is basically the process by which you are loved one determines whether the program is right for you. On the flip side, the addiction treatment program will be determining whether the applicant is appropriate and eligible for admission to their particular program. We’re looking for inappropriate match.
The person at the treatment program handling the call is essentially looking to make sure that the caller is in need of or asking actual services provided by the program. An example of a mismatch would be a heroin addict in withdrawal looking for help in DUI education school. There has to be a match between substances being used in substance is being treated at that particular program.
The next factor that has to be screened for is appropriateness for level of care. Someone needing medically supervised detoxification is not appropriate for an outpatient program. Another person might need rather extensive medical monitoring that some programs are not equipped to handle.
There are several other factors that need to be screened for to determine eligibility for admission. There are factors of in time, age, gender, legal status, and geographical location all may play a role in whether a patient is appropriate to apply to the program.
There’s a difference between screening an assessment. Screening has to do whether the patient is appropriate for the program. Assessments which happened a bit further down in the process evaluate and identify a particular patient’s individual strengths and needs to help guide a course of treatment.
